How to Describe Any Graph in 4 Sentences: Task 1 Made Simple
One method for Academic Task 1, in four moves: say what the chart is, write the overview, then pick the two features that matter and group everything else with them. The four sentences are your plan for the first three minutes; the report is those sentences extended to the 150 words the test asks for. Worked reports for a line graph, a bar chart, a table, pie charts and two charts at once, each with a band 6 near-miss beside it, then the language of numbers: comparing, trend verbs, approximating, units and tense. A 3 / 14 / 3 split for the twenty minutes and ten questions to check your own report. Every chart and report is invented for the book. Updated for 2026: nothing about the chart or the 20 minutes changes, but typing the report instead of handwriting it makes revising the plan into the report cheap.
